Notes
Ahh, nostalgia! This CD collects much of Paul Simon's early work, including most of his early collaborations with Art Garfunkel. Paul uses many pseudonyms in these sessions (Jerry Landis, True Taylor), and isn't always the lead musician or vocalist. Still, this disc provides a fascinating glimpse into the early doo-wop world of Paul Simon. If anything, this may lend some insight into the possible sound of The Capeman, Paul's upcoming musical.

The sound quality on this disc is very good throughout. Of special note is that the version of "Hey, Schoolgirl" on this disc sounds markedly better than the version included on the 1964/1993 box set. The former sounds like it was mastered from a clean tape source, while the latter was obviously mastered from an old 45rpm record. Very interesting. The earliest material here dates from November 1957, when "Hey, Schoolgirl" became a minor hit. The bulk of the material on this CD dates from 1960-1962, when Paul was working as a session writer and playing with Tico & The Triumphs.
