Notes
This set is sort of a Best Live Collection on steroids - it has a mixture of live tracks, demos and outtakes that span from 1964 to 1970 (some pirated from the Old Friends box set, likely to make for continuity). This ROIO was assembled to be a "supplement" to the aforementioned official box set - an anthology of S&G rarities that tie together some of the new material from Old Friends with other rare and live material.

As a whole, the set seems decent. Sound quality is all over the map, from the so-so (the "Chéz" material) to the pristine (anything pirated from Old Friends). Most of it falls in the "very good" to "excellent" category, though. Especially nice is the inclusion of multiple takes of "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her" and "Overs." Particularly annoying is the tendency of the set producer to include only parts of important live sets, like the material from Carnegie Hall and the FM-Net Show 1968. Why we need a live version of "Overs" - nice as the live versions are - after multiple studio takes of the song is somewhat puzzling. In defense of the ROIO compiler, live sets were truncated to provide a broader overview of the experience of a live S&G show.

To be fair, though, the set is nice, presenting a good assortment of S&G fare that spans the length of their "power years." FYI, this set originated as a private collection, then found its way to the internet as a downloadable MP3 archive; it has since migrated to the typical ROIO stores. Watch out for poorly-mastered copies, as this is a relatively-common occurrence in the days of home-burned CD-R ROIOs.

A special thanks to the SFTA friend who provided additional info about the origins and logic behind this set!
